SOUTHPORT FESTIVAL OF MUSIC, SPEECH AND DRAMA
Congratulations to Lamont Drama School pupils. At the 2009 Southport Festival of Music, Speech and Drama, the school won the Nell Clarke Trophy for gaining the highest winning points in all the classes. Individual pupils won 15 trophies.
Tim Baker (15) won the Southport Dramatic Club Bursary for winning the Solo Act Under 16 class and 10-year-old Rory Rushton won the Lyndhurst Academy Bursary for the most promising competitor in the under 10 and under 12 acting classes, in the opinion of the adjudicator.
Rory was also awarded the Travis Trophy and a bursary of £50 when he was chosen as the overall winner of the speech and drama section at the Grand Final Concert, held at the Southport Arts Centre. He performed his solo acting piece from the Phantom Tollbooth.
The other finalists invited to appear at the concert from the Lamont Drama School were Tim Baker, who performed ‘This is a Play’, 9-year-old Nisha Kumari Webster, who read a prose excerpt from ‘Horrid Henry’ and 7-year-old Jessica Johnson, recited ‘W is for Witch’.

CROSBY & WIRRAL DRAMA FESTIVALS
Pupils from the Lamont Drama School won more than 30 trophies at the recent Crosby Festival and the Wirral Drama Festival.
The school also won the teacher’s trophy for the school gaining the highest marks at both the Wirral Festival and the Crosby Festival.
Principal Diane Lamont said: “The children really enjoyed competing in both festivals. They all did exceptionally well and I’m very proud of them. They are now working hard towards their next LAMDA exams.”
Trophy winners at the Crosby Festival were Lucy Houghton (open verse), Tim Baker, Cameron Rushton, Charlotte Hughes, Laura Lehan, Lauren Ogden and Georgia Gaudie (highest mark in the drama classes), James Beglin (highest mark in the Character Solo acting classes), Emma Dorrity (highest mark in verse classes over 12), Ellie Hick and Emma Dorrity (improvisation), Chess Dolan (highest mark in prose reading classes), Christie Clark (bursary), Diane Lamont (teacher gaining highest aggregate winners points in the drama section).
